Ok new bike in 2011 or still look for one in 2010

Ok, so I was interested in getting a new bike this year. Yes I think it might be alittle late in model year to find one in stock. I test rode about 5 alloy endurance bikes, and finally rode a synaspe carbon 6. Yes I liked it and it fit me. The price is at the extreme of my budget. Meaning if I buy one this year it will put a hurt into my budget. I can get one for $1700.

So do I wait until next year hoping that the price of a full carbon bike come down (ya right?)
or do I spend the money now if the lbs can find one for me? I probably will not have enough saved until next month. My thinking was to get a alloy bike for commuting until I rode that carbon bike. Yes I did see something here that people are not really sold on carbon some still like the alloy bike. Any suggestions or thought appreciated. Yes say whatever I can handle any comments good or bad lol.

Waiting is what quite a few people do. However there is one upside and one downside.

Upside - price comes down. Sometimes considerably, to make room for the new models.

Downside - price comes down. Bikes that go on sale for clear outs become hard to get because of the sale.

So if you want to save money, wait, but you run the risk of the bike not being avail.

I am assuming that the longer you wait the more money you will be able to save for the purchase. So, even if you don't get a 2010 model at a deep discount so it is affordable for you, you will have more money to pursue a 2011 next year and if you end up getting a deep discount on it next year you will just have that much more money in your pocket. Me, I almost always look for the previous model year bike when possible (e.g., Colnago Arte, Bianchi FG Lite).
Don't wait I have Synapse Carbon 5 and love it !!!
I can wait in a way, yes if I pick up last year model like someone said, I will have more money. But one think with that theory which is always a good one. I believe it too, Is that you have to make alot of calls to find last years model in the size that will fit you. I know the 54cm works.

Yes it is a really nice bike. I test rode the synaspe alloy 5 and 6 and the carbon did take away the rough pavement better than those two bike. Is it worth the extra two hundred over the 5 yes for my old bones. I would be getting the carbon 6. The only one reason to wait, is maybe the jamis endura 1 will come down in price. Since you can fit larger tires on it and a rack.

Do you know if you can fit a size 25 tire on your carbon 5 now? Also the 5 model is out of my range.
If you wait you'll have one less year to use the bike. Assuming people buy bike to ride them that has a value too.
So just weigh the potential savings vs what you think the value of one year of riding is.

Bike prices tend to go up not down by the way. Unless you get prior year left overs.....which can be a good deal but a big gamble especially this year when Cannondale is way behind on production so they'll probably have enough trouble meeting inseason demand thus leftovers will be few and far between.

Here's the other think why I might get it this summer. I told the lbs that it was a nice bike and I went to this store cause I believe that they do a good job of fitting people to bikes. Other stores think it is cool to charge people another at least $125 for a bike fitting. I believe bike fitting should be free if you buy the bike there at that time or in a one month period. I can see charging if you did not buy the bike there.

Also it seems that yes at this time of year all stores want to say, OO we cannot get you that model cause of production trouble. Ya right at least I have heard that alot over the years and yes if you wait until june, it seems to be the case. Ok. SO how do I make a presentation to said bike shop if I know that the carbon 6 is there only model and has been used as a demo. Do I ask for at least a $50 discount and tell them I would be buying pedals from them? Or do I go thru the song and dance and say ok order me one and they will say, well it past production and we can not promise anything? Or do I just say o what the heck here's the full price for the current demo model? What would others do? Sorry for the long rant?
