Hi, looking at building up a custom wheel set with Campy Record 07 Hubs (black) with some Mavic Open Pro's. Just wanted to gauge some ideas on stifffness and durability with both hubs, rims and spoke patterns?
I am 85kg and 188cm tall, i was thinking of 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes laced 2 cross both front and back?
Weight is not a big issue but with this build most likely looking at the 1600-1650g.
Cheers.

2X in front, 3X in back.

3 cross DS rear will be better, that means 3 cross NDS as well if you don't want to be excessively creative.

And 2 cross instead of 3 cross front? You will lose about 1/2 a spoke mass, and gain no other advantage. Radial loading on the hub flange will be greater though.

Assuming 64 spokes, that will be 500-530g. Rims = 870. I think your guess of 1600-1650g is er.. optimistic.

2X in front just looks nice.

Better yet, 2X 28 hole in front.

"it's a shiny black normal looking hub"

yup, campy record is 32/36 only.... i think the black is not bad especially on black rims, but compared to the offering in 06, those things were a thing of beauty... 28h avail back then too ! still sad i never picked up a pair... :(

on the up side, the 07 onwards rear record hubs is pretty darn light... real weight around 225g... real good for a loose ball set up ! to answer the OPs question, but for the limited spoke holes, its the best hub going all things considered IMHO...

OPs 64x dt comps and new record hubs would be around 1650g...maybe a tad more...
64 dt comps @ c.194mm is around 420g... plus alu nipples @.3g... overall 64 at around 450g is a pretty safe bet...

i'd just go 3x all round w/ that set up.... if u like 2x, then everywhere but the DS @ 3x...

I've built several wheelset with Mavic Open Pro rims, Campy hubs, and DT Revolution spokes. I just followed Lennard Zinn's instructions for wheelbuilding from his book "Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance". So far, for me, they're solid.

I've only done 3x lacing, but when I'm bombing down some of the mountain roads in the San Gabriels here in So Cal, I feel a lot more confident on 'em.

I've got a pair, built 3X front and back. They're good, reliable wheels - I've used mine on the Tour of Flanders sportive, and they survived the cobbles just fine, I use them day-in-day-out for training and commuting, and I've raced on them in the past. They're not especially light though - even my Campag Proton wheels are lighter.

protons were a great wheel, but i would still prefer the Record custom option... same hubs, and if u smack open the rim, u can easily replace it.... also, i would only go so far as a 24h setup on a low profile alu rim.... normally 28... dunno how well the campy rim fares w/ only 22 when one breaks....

the neutron ultra is a hot hot wheel in person tho....

i'm aching to build up w/ the nio 22 rims tho... all cx-ray, record rear w/ a tune or WI front hub 24/32... ur looking at easily under 1400g w/ the heavier WI hub... cheap rim to replace too... hrmmm, really should get onto that...
