The Onix returns to Orbea's road lineup in 2013 after a two year absence, with the Onix TPX. Designed as an endurance road bike, the Onix utilizes much of the same technology found on Orbea's Orca race bikes. The engineers at Orbea started with an Orca and tweaked the geometry, making a slight half degree change to the headtube angle, a 1cm longer headtube, and a slight lengthening of the chainstays to create the more upright and stable Onix. They believe the slight changes give up little in the way of great handling and instead strike the proper balance between performance and comfort.

The Onix TPX features a full carbon fiber frame made up of Orbea's bronze level carbon fiber, paired with an Orbea AC fork. The bike is built up with SRAM's versatile Apex groupset, complete with WiFli rear derailleur. A SRAM S150 50x34 compact mated to a 12-32 cassette will essentially let this bike climb up any walls. To save costs, the rest of the bike is outfitted with Orbea's housebrand handlebar, stem, seat post, brake calipers, and wheelset. The Onix is offered in 5 sizes ranging from 48-60, Orbea continues with their size specific technology, SSN, to ensure the same ride characteristics across frame sizes by engineering each size based on unique, size specific parameters. At just $1899, with a lifetime warranty, the Orbea Onix should be quite popular with riders looking for a budget carbon fiber bike that packs quite the value punch.
