In a weird way, it sort of reminds me of old Charlie Brown cartoons (without the humor of course), of when he'd get a line drive railed at him when playing baseball. He'd go into a spin, and all of his clothing, and equipment would go flying. This is sort of like that, except without the benefit of it being a cartoon, this was all too real.
Side story. I was at a race back in 2001. The finale of the race came through this neighborhood, which was supposed to have been blocked off, and or patrolled by the lead car, and an official on a motorcycle on the front, and on the back of the bunch. Something happened where a car ended up on the course, and a car ran into the front of the bunch, taking out about 10-15 cyclists. Only one person got seriously hurt, thankfully, but he had a severe compound fracture in the shin area, and didn't really recover too well, until about 2 years ago.
