I've heard conflicting stories about the different rebuild kits for speedplays. I have the x5 pedals and was told that I could only use the x5 kit. Yesterday, however, a mechanic told me that I could buy the X2 kit with the better/different bearings and it would work. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks a lot, Andy

Been riding SpeedPlays (3-sets of X2's) since 1996 and never had to do anything to the bearings except flush occasionally with grease.
Cleat replacement Yes. Bearing replacement No.
They all still rotate smoothly with no noise or excess play.

I thought the X5's had bushings and the X3's/X2's had bearings, is that not correct?

That's correct. The mechanic said that the bushings could be replaced by the bearings. Thanks, ANdy
