I arrived in Los Angeles a little after mid day on October 31st 2008.

Walking through the terminal from the arrival gate all the way to immigration was somewhat of a shocker to me as I saw how poor the state of LAX's Tom Bradley International Terminal was.

Well, I'd give it some slack because it was still undergoing an overhaul in the areas I walked through but nonetheless, it still proved to be a less than pleasant sight after a 16 hour or so flight.

Immigration was a breeze as the Singapore Airlines plane landed at a great timing - a little before a few other flights came in.

Baggage claim was a pita though as I had to wait a good 20 min or more (very sure it was more) for my bike box to arrive on the carousel (or was it via the elevator? Either way..). Talked to a cool couple who were back home from Bali after they spent sometime there surfing the wonderful waves.

Finally, once my box came, I had to go through the customs declaration zone that was now overflowing with people since an Air China flight just landed as well, along with a Lufthansa plane IIRC.

Damn Homeland Security dude asked me to go through the Red Lane since he saw I had a huge box. Awesome. I'm sure it wasn't already x-rayed tons of times along my way to LAX.

After a good 2 hours or so later, I finally managed to get the hell out of the terminal and waited for the shuttle into Anaheim.

I called Joe Daddio once I was at my hotel and that was a little of a failed attempt:

Tired, I made some instant noodles for dinner, watched a little bit of tv and crashed. Of course, I couldn't really sleep all that sound that night since it was erm, well, whatever the heck time it was back in Singapore.

The next day, I changed hotels because I wanted to move closer to JoeH :D Well, I had reservations for this hotel to begin with for a long term stay and the Marriott I stayed at on arrival day was just for a day.

In true style, this was how I traveled from Garden Grove to my new hotel:

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3351356434/" title="IMGP0030 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3449/3351356434_1be725c911_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0030" /></a>

It cost me cheaper than a cab ride since the driver was a friend of one of the staff at the old hotel who called him for me. (I think it cost me about $7 or something) Pretty snazzy ride I must say.

Looks like I've been integrated into the glamorous life of OC eh? Yeah right!

Joe arrived at my hotel and erm, well, we 'put my bike up' and he lent me his front wheel since my front tire was out (even before I packed the bike up it seems). Thanks man! Really smooth wheel too.

We then rode to his LBS via some routes I wasn't familiar with but it was cool nonetheless.

I picked out a cycling jacket, full fingered gloves and a new tire for my wheel. After hanging there for a bit and talking to Hollywood about the ride that night, Joe gave me directions on how to get home.

I must say though, that wasn't the easiest way to get home dude! I could have just rode straight along Harbor Blvd. all the way to Disney Way and make a left there, right to Clementine and right to my hotel! I figured this out when I next rode to the shop a few weeks later.

When I got back, I was still pondering if I should head for the ride. Seeing as I had nothing else to do, I thought "What the heck! Let's go. Bent would be there too anyway."

Off I went to the Metrolink/Amtrak station to get the train into LA Union Station and then I took the Red Line towards Universal City where Hollywood picked me up from the station.

We stopped to pick out some fish tacos for dinner and hanged at his crib for a bit as Bent arrived too.

Soon after that, we loaded our bikes up into Hollywood's car and drove to Echo Park, LA for the meeting point of the ride. I thought I lost my new gloves (one side) and H-wood spared me one of his.

When we stopped, this 'stranger' came up to our front window and asked "What the eff you guys doin here? Can't you see my car parked out front??"

I knew it was Roebuck, acting all gangstarish! We hung for a little bit and I really regretted not bringing my p&s camera for the event.

Bent offered us 'a lot of candy' and well, it was awesome man! Everyone was all decked in face paint, cool-ish outfits and the atmosphere was really great. Even a 'former lounger,' Endo Verendo was there with us too.

H-wood, Roebuck, you guys could post some pictures of the event here. That'd be really awesome dudes. Thanks!! :D

Here's a thread H-Wood made after DST ended: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?t=152391

Hollywood let me crash at his place for the night and then took me to Union Station the next morning and even got me some oatmeal from Starbuckz! Thanks man!

Too bad it was a little rainy that day and when I got back into Anaheim, I took a cab back to my hotel, showered, changed and crashed. Real hard. For a few days.

And, I paid much less than I would for a cab to boot! In fact, I just tipped the guy since he was doing a favor. Way cool.

I even got a free bottle of water :D

//2nd time the word pimp has been associated with me. Hmm... Maybe I AM learning after all.

You should be a professor with your level of smartness. And then dispense academic advice and then get mistaken, then get threatened to be taken to a board, and etc etc etc. (See thread on Friday night Thread Dredge etc etc.)

//I didn't say what was IN the car now did I? :ihih:

By the way, do you have any pictures from that ride we did? If so, could you email em to me? I'm working on compiling stuff from the trip and possibly making an album etc.

Harbor is a death trap! It's like one of te most used roads in OC! The way I sent you made sure that you had either clear streets or bike lanes 99% of the way. I couldn't be responsible for an Uzzie pancake! (not koade).

Now that I recall the ride home, yeah. Hardly any traffic in that area I rode through.

But, Harbor wasn't too bad, especially given that I rode there on a weekday. Maybe it was coz I was on the road around 2-3 ish perhaps.

I have to say though, riding on the roads back there can be intimidating at times alright! Like, that flyover towards E.Katella, well, going under there scares me man!

I don't know how the hell people ride right through Manhattan!!
