I haven't followed up with the next part for a little while now but that's partly due to my test I had earlier so, I should be able to upload more photos now.

See here for part 7.

Coincidentally, part 8 is a little in line with Joe's emoness today.

Friday, November 14th 2009:

So I texted Joe that morning to let him know that I would be riding to meet him to collect the 'package' he has for me. He even 'charged' it too.

Tires pumped, backpack on, and off I went, route directions in my phone courtesy of Joe.

It was a really hot day and couldn't be truer to the phrase "Sunny Southern California." Truth be told, I could close my eyes and mistake it for Singapore, sans the humidity.

He sent me through a few 'twists' and turns to get to him but it was a cool route as I managed to see things/areas that I wouldn't otherwise have. Some of the roads were pretty bumpy with those darned train tracks that I've grown to hate since my time in OC. They serve only one purpose for a skinny dude on a bike like me: jar the hell out of every teeth I have and attempt to break my wrist.

So, I finally got to the 'location' and gave Joe a call but he was in a 'meeting'. He called me back (I think) and I rode my bike to where he was and.... Ba-da-BING! The package was delivered.

Schweeet! I took my new camera from him and 'thanked' him after a little bit and since he had to go back to 'work', I started shooting a few pictures.

Here you go:

Testing out the 18x optical zoom of my Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-28:

I got in pretty close and actually had to retract the lens :D

Well, after that, I headed to a cool Lebanese cafe nearby to get some lunch that I asked them to pack. Holy mother of beauty batman!

The lady who attended to me was the most beautiful girl I've seen for a loooooonnng time - blond, sapphire blue eyes and a really perfect face. Oh and, I ordered a lamb schwarma with rice to go.

Ok I digress.

After that, I headed straight down the street and made a left on Katella Avenue where I rode all the way to Anaheim Garden Walk to pick out an iced tea from my friend who worked at the sammich store (the girl I met a few days ago.)

After getting the tea from my friendo, I thought it'd be cool to ride by outside Disneyland just to check it out on the bike.

There was this guy who was located on the sidewalk, by Harbor Boulevard and Disney Way (just a very short ride from Garden Walk and my hotel too) who was measuring the street level or something, with his co-worker.

We started talking and turns out, he's a pretty cool guy who graduated from UCLA with an Engineering degree. He lives in Newport Beach and surfs a lot. Rad.

Well, we talked about surfing, vacationing (he just took a short sabbatical too a few months back to travel) and stuff and we exchanged numbers (yeah, go ahead and make fun of me now) and he told me to hit him up should I head down his way one of these days.

Here are some shots from that area (nothing fancy):

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3381405011/" title="P1000022 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3607/3381405011_52c4d36f45_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="P1000022" /></a>

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3382225058/" title="P1000023 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3541/3382225058_c2f3ee0a3d_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="P1000023" /></a>

After getting sunburned, my new friend was already done with his work and so we both headed off.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot: Thanks Joe!

The route back was a lot easier actually. I took Glassell all the way till it hit Katella and then headed back from there.

There were several possible routes I could have taken actually upon realization later that day (once I checked the map again) but I suppose the route home was the simplest. Of course, Katella had a fair amount of traffic but at that time of the day, it wasn't too bad thankfully.

So, thanks again for the route (initially) too!

Maybe I missed it, but what were you in Anaheim for? Were those pictures taken at UCI?

You definitely missed it. I was back there for 3 weeks last year and after heading over to the East Coast, I headed back there for another 4 weeks or so.

Long sabbatical/vacation etc.

Nope, not UCI at all.

//You just joined rbr in January anyway ;)

Uzzie, it amazes me how easily and comfortably you make friends with complete strangers.
Sounds like you made tons of new friends on your trip, even if you exclude the Loungers.

People were really awesome back there too.

I love meeting new people and a big part of my adventure involved meeting a whole bunch of people from all over - some I keep in contact with while some are the strangers you meet while heading to your destination on a bus, or while waiting in line for something etc.

Still, pretty rad indeed.

Loungers aren't strangers!

//By the way, pink shirt girl wasn't a new friend, unfortunately. :D She was more of a camera experiment.

I've read your threads, but I thought I must have briefly skimmed over the reason for your trip. That's cool that you had an extended vacation in Orange County, I figured you might have been testing that lens at a college. Why does my join date matter?

No offense on the join date dude.
Sheesh.

All I meant was I posted about it many months ago, well before winter so I figured you wouldn't have seen it since you just joined in January.

Yeah it was at a school but not UCI though. Does it look like UCI? I thought of riding there but didn't get to doing it.
