Who has a decent one?

My desktop has just become sooooooo slooooooow, I sit here and wait 30 seconds for some of the most basic stuff. It seems to have started with one of the last security updates, but who knows.

You can tell me to get a mac, but I already did.

Any of you have a Microsoft or 3rd party scanning/checking SW package that you tried and actually saw some results from?

I've done all the regular stuff, defrag, monitoring Task Manager to see if there's a hog, etc. Everything looks healthy and happy at the monitor level.

Turn off your AV software, your indexing services, and all the other garbage you don't need.

Just run msconfig.exe (already on your PC) and see what is killing your performance. No health check can really do anything useful.

As XP has gotten more secure, Microsoft has added a lot more resources. You do need a lot more memory than you used to. However, XP does slow down with time, although nowhere nearly as bad as 98. A reinstall is a good thing to do every 2 years.
