A while back my mum got a used Peugeot Tourmalet ('88 or '89 model year). She's a bit stretched out when riding, but her stem is 120mm c-c, and a shorter stem would be just enough to correct this (I'm thinking about 90mm or 100mm, nothing radical). Does anyone know (and I Googled it) if a regular stem would fit (22.4 diameter) or would she need to get a 22.2 diameter (French) stem?

You better measure it. In the late 80's a lot of French manufacturers changed from French to British standards..
