Well, I have been trying to get back into the commuting routine now that the storms have slowed down a bit here. The weather has actually been nice over the past couple of days save for some high clouds and cool temps. I'm finally getting back into the groove and having fun with the whole commute thing again. Just needed to start doing it on a regular basis to get my mind and body back into the action. Here are some pics of the different places I ride by on my way to and from work. Just another quick series of snap shots of Carson City, Nevada starting with a picture of my office and ending with my hairy toes and dinner.

Just some quick notes on the pics. The Carson City airport actually had a working terminal back in the 40's and 50's. Now it's the home of a company that rebuilds/retrofits seaplanes. Carson has a few casinos but is no Vegas. There are very few hot spots so I included pics of two of the more popular bars. Finally, I was too lazy to cook so I survived on peanut butter and jelly! Enjoy.

Fun pics.

Your fire engines are orange? I'm always surprised when fire engines are anything other than red... like yellow, or lime green, and now orange. Huh.

I think that cat's going after your gear.

Not sure why they are yellow. To be different I guess. The cat always has to make sure nothing new has been brought home.

orange is used for visibility.

i saw a show about the start of the logistics company, Yellow. I'm sure you've seen them on the road, but the story goes that one of their trucks was in an accident and the owner said something to the effect of "i want our trucks to be as visible as possible". thus the Yellow company trucks are orange.

quick google leads to this:

"Safety—Our Name Is Yellow, but Our Trucks Are Orange.
Yellow commissioned DuPont to determine what color was most visible from the greatest distance for the fleet. After careful research, DuPont presented a color, dubbed "Swamp Holly Orange." And so the company named Yellow had an official color—orange—the safest color on the road.

The American Trucking Assn. has recognized Yellow's Safety Program with its prestigious President's Trophy, the motor carrier industry's highest award for highway safety and accident prevention."

orange

When I was fresh out of school I moved to the Reno area and remember seeing a
orange fire truck. didn' think much of it because I grew up in Springfield Or, they also have
orange trucks. later found out that these to places were the only ones in the U.S.
The official fire truck calanders always have Carson or Springfield included

The burgers are good. The atmosphere is horrible! Lots and lots of old folks puffing away on cigarettes inhaling their pudding and greasey food. But, sometimes it is fun just to sit there, eat the burger and beer, and watch the strangeness.

Well, I guess my yellow bike is a good thing then. Not quite the swamp orange but still pretty bright. Only a couple near hits in the past year so it must be working.
