I was trying to think of something new to do with the Commuting/Touring Photo Post. All the Oscar buzz got me thinking we could do something similar.

The Kato's

I'm going to take the current 146 posts I have listed in the post, sort them into a random order. From the random order I will post 7 or 8 photo links per poll for a total of 20 polls. I will run those polls for 10 days. I will then take the winner of from each of the 20 polls and put them in a two polls of 10 pictures each for another 10 days. The winners of those two polls will go in a two item final poll for the winner of the Kato.

Just like the Oscar's it won't be entirely fair.
1) I don't have every photo post listed that's ever appeared. Worthy posts are absent from my list.
2) Great posts are going to be competing with each other in the first rounds and only one can go forward.
3) One vote per poll.
4) Because it will be a random order, people will be competing with their own posts and only one can go forward.
Sorry.

If this works we could try for other Kato categories, best commute, best story, best composition.....whatever.

[email protected] you Scott, how can I choose among those.

I love Arbys work, Kai-Ming is the man, Hjaltis stuff is so cool (his kid rocks and throws) and Phillipe rules, Dr Hoo will likely delete this thread and PM us if he doesn't win and how can I not vote for a first commute post.

Great idea but you are killing me here.

Great idea!

Thanks for getting all the photos into groups so we can view them. There's great stuff that I'd probably never see unless they were dug up and featured like you've got them here.

They're inspiring!

Thanks for all the work!

I have ridden with several people who have posted ride reports (Arby, MB1, philippec, Pierre, Zeytin, biknben -- there probably are some people that I am missing) and hope to ride with them again. There is no way that I am going to pick among my friends. Not to hijack this thread, but I was wondering how many RBR regulars have NOT posted a trip report.

Yes I agree, it's hard to choose. It's all just for fun. Mark took it as me asking him to pick his favorite friend, certainly not my intention. Just a fun activity to remind everyone of the great stuff we have on the site and show off everyones contribution. Everytime I go and take care of the Photo Post thread I'm reminded how good the contributions the community is posting are. They all show the communiites passion, sense of fun, and willingness to share their excitement for the hobby (or lifestyle if you prefer, but that's a different poll). nobody should take this too seriously. This polling method is full flaws for finding the "best" photo post. I wouldn't sweat it and vote your heart and not be too concerned if your choices don't win. It's all for fun.

Actually I think that the contest is a great idea. It is an opportunity for all of us to browse again through the many great reports that people have posted here on RBR. My problem is very specific to me -- not only have I ridden with several of the contestants and hope to ride with them again, pictures of me are in a few of the reports. After some thought and reflection, I plan to do some voting, but I will not cast any votes for any report posted by someone with whom I have ridden.

phillipec took this one with isuzu japan #2-that definitely took it to a new level.
dr. hoo gets the honorable mention for his haunting black-and-white pics and a couple nice bike-related color ones too.
the photography skills of these posters, as well as guys like MB1, never cease to amaze me. i'll be posting up some pics this spring/summer from calgary, alberta, canada, and hopefully they come out even half as good as your guys's shots. keep riding and keep snapping! (unless you're on a carbon bike) heehee

Nah, I did not even vote for myself. It was an honor just to be nominated.

Scot, I did not see my favorite photo essay listed in your nominee lists. Please include:

Thxs.
That post is the reason I decided to call the award the Kato, just another reason to photoshop Gregg. It's too late for this contest in any event.

Thanks for the link
