Hi Folks,

I just received a carbon fork purchased via internet. To me it looks defective. I have attached pics. While it may be hard to view I can say that I can feel the mark with my fingernail. So the big question here is, tell me what you think is it safe or not?

I'm a design engineer...don't do carbon, but most traditional materials...could just be a resin void and may be mostly cosmetic...but, no way I'd ride that fork.

It's a void...
No big deal...ride the thing...
That part of the steerer will be just above the bearing, inside the headtube. There will be very little, if any stress on that part of the steerer.

I think it would be OK too, but if I had just paid for it new, I might be asking for an exchange. Why accept it if you are not happy. Even if it is just a blemish in the finish, why always wonder while riding it if is OK. You paid for a product, I would get what I am pleased with.

Thanks for your replies bicyclego, backinthesaddle and spookyload. When I look at the area of concern I see a lack of material. So the term "void" or "resin void" seems appropriate.
