Last night during a training ride I discovered my rear wheel no longer wanted to freewheel. When I stopped pedaling, the chain would pull on the RD and the freehub wouldn't budge. I took the freehub off tonight and found the culprit. Turns out the spring around the three pawls somehow migrated so the opening in the spring was directly over a pawl, causing to to malfunction. Upon further examination, it appears there was supposed to be some kind of block in a detent on the hub body to prevent this, but it is conspicuously missing. Probably ground up into dust or something.
Am I right in assuming it's toast, and that I should replace it? I moved the spring around so the opening was between the pawls, however I'm concerned it will migrate back over time. It functions as it should now, but what I'm concerned is for how long.
