Shimano is making a big push into the gravel cycling scene with PRO components such as these wide flaring handlebars.
Shimano component brand PRO has introduced its first performance product range specifically made for gravel and adventure riding, including flared handlebars, bags, and short travel dropper seat posts. Here's a rundown of the new gear.
PRO's range of flared handlebars are designed to provide more control and stability for mixed terrain riding and are offered in two flare options. The 12-degree Medium Flare bar features an ergonomic top section for secure and comfortable hand position on both the tops and in the drops. Weight: 270 grams. Sizes: 40, 42, 44cm. Drops flare out 2.35cm on each side.
The 30-degree Jumbo Flare bar is optimized for riders looking for added control when tackling more aggressive off-road terrain. Both bars are compatible with Shimano's EW-RS910 Di2 bar end junction for integration of the Di2 wires and removing the need for Shimano's junction box underneath the stem. Weight: 280 grams. Sizes: 42cm and 44cm. Drops flare out 6.7cm on each side.
Complementing PRO's adventure handlebars is the new lineup of Discover bike bags for big days in the saddle. The 8-liter waterproof handlebar bag features a main pouch that can be opened on both sides with a removable cover that doubles as the handlebar mount.
It features three Velcro straps to mount to head tube and handlebar with two 'shock blocks' to prevent rubbing and give your hands clearance on the bars. The cover comes with a cord and toggle for easy storage of larger items like sleeping bags or jackets.
The seat pack is a large 15-liter bag that mounts to the saddle or seat post with buckle fasteners and a shock block to prevent sideways play and abrasion on the seat post. High-vis elements and toggle cords feature on the outside and the inner plastic forming plate can be removed to give additional space.
The 5.5-liter frame bag sits in between the seat tube, head tube and top tube with two sections. The right section is for larger item storage with a removable divider. The narrower left section is for food and other items you want to grab on the bike. The bag mounts with two top tube Velcro straps (front one adjustable) and a seat tube strap.
Top Tube Bag
Rounding out PRO's line of Discover bike bags is the 0.75-liter top tube bag that can be bolted to the frame, which is especially useful for frames with top tube bolts behind the stem. It also comes with removable Velcro straps for additional mounting options. The bag features an easy access reverse-pull looped zip and features an opening port for charging cable access to electronic units and devices, plus an external cord and toggle for quick storage of clothing or food.
Koryak 70 Dropper Post
PRO also expands its line of Koryak dropper seat post with four new models including a 70mm drop, short travel post designed specifically for gravel and adventure riding. The lightweight dropper post features external cable routing for fast setup and a 27.2mm seat post diameter compatible with many XC and gravel frames. The post offers infinite travel and comes with a Shimano cable set allowing for adjustment at the dropper lever.
