Public Service Announcement

WARNING: do not attempt a running CX dismount from a fixed-gear in 35mph crosswinds.

I've done plenty of reasonably coordinated moving dismounts from the Pista, but doing so in high winds meant a playful gust o' hurricane got the bike a little sideways. At which point my knee had a close encounter with the still-swinging pedal. Ow dammit!

this bruise is a lot more impressive in person, I think the flash kinda washes it out. it's all different pretty colours!

This has been a Public Service Announcement. We now return you to your regularly scheduled arguments of brakes vs. brakeless and whether you should convert that 1979 Schwinn Varsity you found in the dumpster behind school.

Don't stoke the fire dammit!

Sorry to hear 'bout the incident... you cross racers think you're all invincible... :) heal quick!
Now look what you've done...

if word of this LEG SHOT gets out to the Lounge, we'll be over run by snakes, pies, hit its and other depravity....

Get well soon...

On second thought, maybe the other Lounge Chica's will feel left out and post a pic of their various bruises...
never fear

they'll never find it in here. they're not cool enough to hang out in the fixte forum dude.
Cat's outta the bag.

Eddy posted a nasty ass picture of her leg bruise a while back - on the lounge. Brave girl.
I spend a little time in the fixie forum. Saw this thread a while ago and was gonna try out my newly learned skillz SHOW ME SOME SKIN over in the lounge but hey I'm not always a moreonasshat, just most of the time.
Not much of a tan there LFR....

Quite a while back Sheldon Brown wrote about an off the back of the seat fixed dismount. I imagine it is still up at his website.

Works really well without all that bruising (not that there is anything wrong with a nice colorful bruise once in a while-reminds us that we are human).

Of course now at my advanced age I tend to get off the bike very carefully indeed and proceed to use the thing as a very expensive walker......;)
HA! Wrong-o LFR! I'd show you my little scar from a dumb-ass miss on a remount but mine was on my geared cross bike and it was, well, LAME. Plus I don't have my digicam at work.....
