I just bought this bike http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom_cross_cx.htm and I'm hoping to use it 1) as a cyclocross racer and 2) for winter road riding in VT when the roads are covered w/ snow and sand. I'm small and ride with 165mm cranks. Can anyone tell me how to swap out the 170mm TruVativ Touro compact cranks for 165mm cranks? I can't find 165mm TruVativ cranks in the Touro model. Are any of their other models interchangeable? If not, does anyone know if the Shimano compact cranks (FC-4550 as seen here http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=14534) will work? They come with an integrated BB but the external cups are sold seperately. Would I need English or Italian?

Ahhhh!! This is so much more complicated than I had anticipated.

Thank you so much for your input!

Ummm . . .

maybe just try it first and see if the 5mm extra bothers you? 5mm ain't much, and some people can't tell the difference, especially on a different bike ridden in different conditions.

In any event, a different model crankset should work as long as the BB interface is the same type.
