I have an older road bike with 6 speed cluster & 42/52 crankset. In an effort to lower the gearing, I bought an older RSX crank with 36/46 rings.

What adjustments would be required, if any, on the derailleur?

If it wouldn't work does any one know where I could find a 38 or 39 ring with a 144 BCD?

Thanks.

Did you also get a BB with the correct taper and spindle length? The FD will most likely need to be lowered.May not be able to get it low enough if you have a braze on. I think the smallest ring in a 144 BCD is a 42.

Thanks for the reply.

It is a braze-on, and it sounds like I cant just find a smaller ring for the current crank.

Would something like a Sora crank work, assuming the right BB? (39/52)
