since I live in the land of mostly dry conditions, I'm going to build up a more mud specific wheelset

what tire shouldI use? Only thing off the list would be Dugasts and FMBs as theyare beyond my price range and skill level.
Fangos?
Grifos?
Ralphs?

thx

so what I have right now

and/or setting up
1 Wheelset O/S Grifos 34 front, 32 rear (weird but it works) Bike 1
1 Wheelset New School Grifos Bike 2
1 Wheelset (training-beater tubs) Tufo Pro T-34 Bike 1
1 Wheelset Tufo Pro 32 Dry Plus Rear, Pro 32 Cubus Front Bike 1
1 Wheelset Tufo Elite 34s Bike 2 thinking of swapping to slicks

1 Wheelset - mud??

I get deals on both Challenge and Tufo
So 've got one vote Grifo one Fango

I'm not sure if the Grifos have changed from the last 2 yrs, but if they haven't (mine have the side knobbies on them), I'd go with the Fangos over the Grifos esp if you are going to run a file tread, too. That's what I'm going to do...
FWIW-I've read (not from pers exp) that Fangos actually roll better than Grifos, too.

did you notice at nats

how many Grifo / File Tread combos were ran? it is actually a pretty good combo
I'm testing a cheaper version of it with the Dry Plus/Cubus
the Cubus looks like the old Panaracer MTB tire (Fire XC) which always worked well in socal.

i used to love those tires, but got way too many flats with them.

well Tufo

has a new tire called the Cubus that looks alot like it, I'll report on how it handles after I get them glued up. I got the "pro models" as the Flexus Version will most likely be too thin sidewalled for the abuses of SoCal

That's supposedly a "mud" tire, as I recall. From what the reviews have said, it's not as good as the Fango. Or so "they" say.....

well I'd probably agree

but Grifo /File Tread would have been more costly and more prone to sidell tears

I love Challenge Tires, So Cal conditions do not in many cases
