so, i just got a steal on some red components and now i need a frame to build! only material missing from the stable is carbon...maybe now's the time?

i'm a fan of the high-end but off the radar stuff...stable includes steelman, scapin, moots, paramount (mtb!). need a *long* top tube on a short frame...52 ST x 55 TT would be ideal, but close is acceptable.

any recs for frames i should check out? anything for sale? please, no trek/specialized/giant/other 'mass production'.

thx.

There are plenty of thoughts that cross my mind. Parlee, Crumpton and Land Shark are all doing very cool things with custom carbon. Those are all very expensive, Veloforma and a few similar American brands are offering limited customization with frames designed here and made in Asia.

If you are looking at stock frames, virtually everything carbon is going to be made on the assembly line in Asia. If you can accept that and are just trying to avoid the cookie-cutter brands... there are some really cool European brands like Storck as mentioned above, Canyon and Focus - they are hard to get in the US, but generally well regarded frames.

Bonktown?

I've seen some Colnago, Pinarello, and some other brands at 1/2 list price on Bonktown, don't know if they'd float your boat or not. And of course you'd need some patience watching the iitems roll over, and be quick to decide when they pop up...

You mentioned Scapin, they make some really nice bikes. I have been a big big fan of theirs since I was a kid.
*cough* That means this thread is useless without pics of your stable. :D

Another obvious option is Calfee, particularly if you are in the Bay Area. He's been making custom carbon frames a long time. Plus, if you decide you really want to round out your stable there's always his bamboo bikes!
