I have been looking at the Madone 2 series from Trek. I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions to share. I like how the drivetrain is mostly 105 but the crank is a Shimano R565 and the cassette is a Tiagra 12-30. How do these latter two parts measure up in terms of performance? I am not too concerned with weight.

They will both work fine. Just used to keep the price down a bit.
The crank is a wayyyyyyy bettel alternative to the FSA Gossamer manufacturers used to use.

Agreed. The R565 is a good looking Tiagra-class crank set and one would likely not notice a difference in stiffness or weight. The cassette is fine also. Like tihsepa said, they are used to keep prices down. In a practical sense, I would not pay extra for the same bike with a 105 crank set and cassette; you won't notice the gain in performance.
