Hi all!
Been reading other posts but want to be sure before I order. I have a circa 2010 105 10 speed compact crank 11-27. Installed 11-32, current RD not a good fit as I anticipated, wanna go mtb. So I need a 9 speed mtb RD? Is this correct? I'm thinking deore long cage. Thanks in advance.

I have a long-cage Deore derailleur on my 2010 105 bike (the 5600 series components) and currently have a SRAM 12-36 10-speed cassette with the compact crank. It works well. The only thing I can't answer is if the derailleur is officially a "9-speed" part, but I would guess that it is.

Yes, the nine speed long cage derailer will work very well. I did this a few years ago to prepare for a Gran Fondo ride that had some very long steep climbs.

But does it NEED to be 9 speed (what I've read) or will 10 speed work also. Sorry for the mispost.
If you have Shimano 10 speed shifters you NEED a 7, 8, or 9 speed derailleur if you're going to use a mountain bike derailleur. A 10 speed (Dyna-Sys) 10 speed mtb derailleur will NOT work w/ a 10 speed road shifter. This has been discussed dozens if not hundreds of times on this forum. Again and again...year after year.

Are you suggesting that a simple search could have answered this question?
Nope, He's telling you it would have.

Too be fair to the n00b, it's a confusing topic. Shimano has made is crystal clear as a piece of coal.
