I've been following these guys at Britek for a while. They're developing airless car and bicycle tires where rubber is stretched over carbon nanotube rods that can be adjusted for varying suspension.
Ah yes, airless bicycle tires! What will they think of next? Patented in about 1890 IIRC but SURELY this time(!) they'll make it work. After all, they've got NANOTUBES and well what could be better than nano anything?

As to the original link: I can only imagine how much suspension loss there will be in those wheels and what a joy they would be leaning hard into a high speed turn. Yes I'm sure they'll be just the ticket.

Pardon my skepticsm.

My fixi is mounted with airless/solid tires ... Test ride was fine; about 20 miles on the paved W&OD rail trail.

Anybody else using these ?

Read up a little more on carbon nanotubes. They're today's multi-use wonder fiber.

In other news I read about this farmer who developed a new method for slaughtering baby cows. Critics accused him of reinventing the veal.
