^ Great advice Mootsie! Leverage is your friend. I've also put an old seat post over my wrench for added leverage.
Also great advice that I keep in my head - BACK OFF...turn towards the back of the bike to get pedals off.
And...I should say in my earlier days I too had a heckofa time getting pedals off, getting confused which way to turn. I have a scrape in my DT paint on one bike to remind me of this and the memory of smashing my fingers on my chain ring, which took a long time to heal. Ah, the fun of wrenching without knowing enough...
