I have some older freewheel Campy hubs that are spaced widely enough to use in a modern 130mm rear triangle, but I am wondering how far I can go with modern technology.

Accepting the reality that I have got to use a freewheel on these hubs, what are the possibilities, how far can I go with a freewheel...can I use an 8 speed chain and crank? I am also accepting the fact that I need to use friction, not ergo indexing.

How far did freewheels go...7 or 8 speed?

Thanks in advance guys

there are 8 speed freewheels. You could ergo/sti with that 8 speed you just need to get some older 8 speed ergo/sti brifters (or downtube, I know shimano had/has 8 speed downtube indexed shifters, campy had their syncro 2 which would do 8 speed). Good luck and let us know how it goes.
