Long Hot Summer Night   —Jimi Hendrix<table border="0" width="700"><tr><td width="350">It sure was a long long long hot summer night
As far as my eyes could see
Well my heart was way down
in a cold cold winter storm.
Well my darlin where can you be?

There was three sugar walls and a two candy cane windows
But the serious mood melted all those in sight
Everybody’s on fire but I’m snowin in a cold blizzard.
Where are you on this hot cold summer?
Where are you on this hot cold summer?
Where are you on this hot cold summer night?

Around about this time the telephone blew its horn across the room
Scared little Annie clean out of her mind
Roman the candle he peeps out of his peekaboo hide and seek
And grabbed little Annie from the ceiling just in time
</td><td width="350">And the telephone keeps on screamin.
Yeah yeah yeah!

Hello said my shaky voice, well how you doin
I start to stutter look
Ah can't ya tell I’m ah doin
Fine there was my baby talkin, she's way down cross the border.
She says I’m gonna hurry to ya Ive been a fool
And I’m tired of cryin

Yes a long long long hot summer night
As far as my eyes could see
But I can feel the heat comin on as my baby’s gettin closer.

I'm so glad that my baby’s comin to rescue me
So glad that my baby’s comin to rescue me
So glad that my baby’s comin to rescue me
</td></tr>

Nothing special. Went for a ride along the beach to escape the heat. All the roadway pix are while riding, so, you know, whatever. But I like seeing everyday streets in other ride reports, so here ya go:

Admiralty Way in Marina Del Rey.

Same road, different stretch.

Fiji Way, heading straight toward the ocean (read: headwind).

At the end of Fiji, you go 3/4 around a roundabout, hit the bike path, make a hard right, then fight the wind for another 1/4 mile until you end up at "The Bridge" (bridge pictures further down).

The Bridge connects the Marina (and Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu) to the South Bay, including El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, etc.

The scenic void between El Segundo and Manhattan Beach, sight of an RBR fixie ride a few months back.

Manhattan Beach.

I did not take this one while riding; rather, while chilling on the bench on the Manhattan Beach Pier.

The white IF. With white tires.

Heading back through no-man's land.

WARNING! HANG GLIDER X-ING!

Chilling at The Bridge.

Ocean Avenue through Santa Monica. (The ocean's on the left.)

A coral tree on San Vicente in Santa Monica.

San Vicente, cont'd.

L.A. sports fans are total losers. When the Lakers reach the playoffs all the paraphernalia starts showing up. When the Lakers suck, you don't hear a word about 'em.

*Ouch* .... On the plus side, only a couple miles till I'm getting my lunch to go and going around the block to my apartment.

And, finally, no SoCal ride report is complete
without a Little Bit O' Fail.</td></tr></table>

Yeah, I guess that fancy-schmancy camera of yours doesn't have a "zoom" feature. And the white IF....JEEZE, you need a beeting.

Awesome pictures as always, Doctor.
Aw, man ... all I had was my crappy P & S. I was zoomed in about halfway, fwiw.

Brings back some nice memories of all the riding I've done on those same streets and paths when I lived up there. And the RBR fixie ride last January. Thanks, Dr.

By the way, is Ernie's Bike Shop still at 26th and San Vincente?

Hey Richard. Ernie's is looooong gone. Used to be a cool shop tho.

Doc: neato. Whats with the last photo? I was in your 'hood yesterday riding with a group of mtb'ers to & fro the dirt in the Santa Monica mtns. Nice day to be grinding up an exposed hillside with no visible shade.

after looking at those pics again I think I'll head down to the beach w/bike. Call me?

Just don't go during Jeopardy. And if you go during Jeopardy, don't call me.

Last shot: my most frequent post-ride lunch stop = closed. Fail.

"Closed for renovations" = pest infestation (of the rat and cockroach variety). HTH.
Right? It's a tiny shop so I was wondering what "renovations" they'd be doing.

I like the fat boy slim remix better, but it taint on yewtoob

My underseat toolbag now contains a little foil pack of Triflow, just in case the situation repeats itself. Courtesy of the folks at Triflow that I met at Seaotter. They liked the story of the binding return spring.

BTW,

"Baking in Los Angeles" is so hot right now.
