Just wondering if anyone is aware of night riding as being higher risk than day. I know there is the drunk driver issue, but besides that? If one has lights, etc, aren't we actually more conspicuous at night than less?

I know damn well cars see me at night. Can never be sure during daylight, even with a powerful headlight.

It's all dependent on conditions, but I don't have a real worry riding rural roads after dark. Urban roads have a lot more visual noise and so your "see me" lights have more to compete with.

When I rode fairly regular night rides in Winter, I had fewer issues at night than during the day. Four flashing tail lights, reflective safety vest, reflective ankle bands, MagicShine up front on the bar, and a helmet light.

A cop told me that the reflective safety vest really stood out in his headlights.
