Good guy, one of a group of what one might call quintessential American actors, like kevin kline, peter coyote, chris cooper. Lost to a brutally debilitating disease, ALS, attacks central nervous system and leaves the victim totally paralyzed. And then he dies. Awful news..

Ive pontificated on this issue before here, but Sam Shepard was also in an Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven. To this day, I believe it remains one of the greatest films I have ever seen...

Yeah, last movie I saw him in (with Lilly Tomlin), it was pretty obvious that he was suffering from something like ALS. A great actor, as well as a great writer.

prefer badlands and the thin red line.

i mean, filmmaking doesn't get much better than that.

Wow, did not know Shephard had ALS. I lost a close family member to the very same thing.

It is a horrible disease, and currently uncurable. Will miss Shepard, he was always good in anything he was in, even bombs like Stealth.
