I would feel nervous riding on rollers next to a guy who showed up in a helmet.

These guys are all excellent rollers riders, but they're spinning at over 200 rpm's. The spotters are there to prevent chain reaction type crashes, since the riders are so close to each other. Some took advantage of the spotters and just thrashed away, while others were smoother and their spotters didn't touch their bikes at all.

Rollers are easy to stay on when you're not actually riding at 100%. But at 100% it would be almost impossible to stay on a 16" wide roller. Hence the holders.

Here's me roller racing 30 years ago. Those boys nearly worked as hard as I did.

my bad- the pics work fine, it just threw me off at first because they were coming up in windows i already had open. nyvelocity is a great site overall, btw!

right- when you sprint, you torque your handlebars from side-to-side, and you definitely don't want to rock the handlebars around on rollers.

wierd.
in one of the later pics there is a dude named kansas waugh on a celeste bianchi. i sold him that bike in the fall. i just remember because of the unusual name.

caught me off guard to see it there.
