The strongest rider won which is always nice to see in a race that can be decided by bad luck.

Not so nice, the DQ which while understandable is unfortunate as they violation in no way
influenced the race. They weren't going to catch Cancellera and Boonen's group wasn't going to catch them.

Worst luck - Hincapie

Surprise ride - Gusev

Gutsy ride - Portal. After being in the break he was yo-yoing and dropped multiple times but kept hanging tough.

Dumbest ride - Flecha. Seriously overworked. Boonen gets honorable mention for telling QS not to try to come back to the front, although it didn't look like they were going to be able to anyway. Once he knew he wasn't super he could have used help to try to keep it together for a sprint.

PvP probably got the most out of the legs he had. Didn't see a wasted move all day, he was always in the wheels and ended up on the podium before the DQ.

QS gets the award for most under-performing team, while FdJ gets it for riding above expectations.

Usually everyone is screaming about Discovery under-performing. Discovery just had about the worst luck you could wish on any team this year.

The race might have been different if Hincapie had been able to stay in the front group with two other team mates that were riding quite well.
