I have noticed that some road tyres have a surface that is glossy and smooth(for example continetal GP3000 or conti Ultra sport)
Other tyres for example IRC redstorm, maxxis xenith have a more rough and tacky surface.
I don't refer in tread pattern but in the roughness of the surface rubber.
Is the rougher surface more grippy?
From touch I feel that glossy, smooth surfce of conties is not the best for delivering good grip. However I have used some continental ultra sports and seems to behave ok.

That slick surface is mold finish. I recently bought two pair of contis, GP3000 for my main ride and Ultra 3000 for my '88 bianchi. I thought the same until I rode them and roughed up the surface. Nothing different I've noticed.
