Toyota's youth-oriented sub-brand is put out of its miseryThis August Toyota is killing Scion, its 13-year-old attempt at luring young people to then-staid Toyota. It sold more than a million cars in its life with offbeat models, youth-aimed marketing and a fresh retail environment. Scion’s cars and dealers are folding into Toyota’s, the automaker announced Wednesday.

Hopefully Toyota rolls what little was good into their parent brand.

Scion brand is dead; Toyota kills off Scion

If they'd just made a kick ass Corolla to match the Civic Si and R, it probably would have worked.

my sister has a Scion XB. It is the ugliest vehicle i have ever seen, i am embarrassed to be seen within 50 feet of it. Oh, and it has kind of been a piece of crap too, although she has almost 200,000 on it but they have not been trouble free miles

Bummer. I thought picking up a used FR-S MT in the future would have been fun. Being badged as Toyota from 2017 on will just drive up the $ and make it the same range as the mechanically identical Subaru BRZ.

The early XBs will be collector items. They had real small engines but their box look started a trend everyone else tried to copy with their version. I like the looks of the early ones. The later ones sucked.

My sisters is the first year, my son in law summed it up when he saw my sisters car the first time:

"Nice box, wonder what the car that came in it looks like"

Seems a bit like what happened with Saturn... they traded on 'cool' and/or different, image-wise, but didn't quite have the actual products to back it up.

Well, it was being run by Toyoya.

Some suggested corporate mottos:

"And you thought GM was boring!"

"Toyota--we take the fun out of driving."

"Toyota--our cars don't fall apart, but after a time--YOU WISH THEY WOULD!"

I actually liked the Xb (original) for a city drive--we used to rent them with Zipcar. But I thought the actual execution of the 'separate marque' was a bit flawed. It was geared towards a young demographic--and yet the people I knew who bought the Xb were people looking for a versatile econo-box.

Same deal with the Honda Element. They should have marketed both for their utility rather than try to strike a nerve with the young and hip crowd.

A hallowed marque. I'll miss it deeply.

I guy I used to work had a couple of the boxy Scions. He also was busted by a coirker picking his nose. He was forever named after that as "Booger and his magic toaster".

I have never been a fan of the first generation XB. It looks too much like a refrigerator tipped on it's side with wheels slapped on all for corners.

Young people don't buy or drive cars, they use Uber and pay on their parent's credit card. The only solid car buying demographic left besides moms buying SUVs and dads buying minivans are BMW/Audi/MB middleage doucheheads. Well that and the pickup truck crowd. Me I'm saving up for a Sprinter van to retire in...

Great minds! I spend idle time looking at people's conversions. I just wish that they weren't so prone to rust in the NE--anything that I can afford locally already has advanced Congo body rot.

I'm with you. My buddy owns a cabinet shop, last year they picked up an extended Sprinter for use as a delivery and service vehicle. Our plan is to buy it in 5 years and with the help of his CNC machine and our nearly 50 years of construction experience, turn that bad boy into road tripping mega machine.
