That's probably going to change when you sit on it. It'll also vary according to the seat material and the rider's weight. And when it does, what's flexing? The seat material? The seat frame? Both?
I totallyl agree that the value will change with mass on top, flexing, etc. Just trying to get a feel for the baseline range out there. Is there an industry standard, or....
There's no industry standard, but almost all saddle manufacturers try to keep that dimension large enough so there's no contact between the underside of their saddle and the top of any commonly available seat post. Sometimes a "low" saddle gets put on a "high" seatpost and there is contact, but it's a rare occurence.
I could use one of those saddles with a small seat to rail distance. Right now with my Flite saddle the aero portion of my C-Record seatpost is tucked down into my seat-tube about 2-3mm.
