Came across this frame on Ebay.
2013 Asymmetrical Pinarello Dogma 65 1 THINK2 Inspired Carbon Framest | eBay
Post says he can't verify the authenticity of the frame?? These sell for between $5-7000 at shops! He's getting them from Alibaba for $4-500. Anyone reselling this frame will pass it off as the real deal. Does Pinarello gain from this deception as no one will take a chance on second hand bikes and buy only from a registered dealer, or will people just stay away from the brand altogether thinking they will never be able to resell because of the fake saturated market.

There are so many of these look-a-like frames posted every day of the week and sold that to stop it would require Piarello hiring a full time employee just to watch eBay all day.

And how would customs know any better than the rest of us?

When (real) Pinarellos are made in the orient also...and the carbon copies are good enough to look identical as the real thing...what can customs do?

You would think this kind of deception could sink a bike company. Their product brand gets so saturated that they won't be able to sell any. Then the impostors move to another maker.

Not many people buy Pinarellos compared to other labels...and those that do, usually aren't stupid enough to believe they're getting a genuine $3-5K frameset for $1K. If you're seriously in the market for a Pinearello, you're going to get a legit one.

Customs has people who speak Mandarin, Cantonese, as well as other dialects. The Chinese government can communicate with certain Custom officials. They can eventually locate the source of the fake manufacturers, if they work together.

What I don't get is even if you know it's a fake, why would you pay 3 x what you could get it for otherwise. I think there are more stupid people out there than we think.
