On last nights ride as I was down shifting the rear mech when there was a pop like the cable broke then the sound of the chain coming on and off the cassette. I pulled to the side of the road and checked the rear mech the cable was fine and had tension and the movement seemed fine. Pulled back the rubber cover on the hoods and couldn't see any issue there.

The STI moves but not full range and no feel of the indexing. The ride home was biggest gear so good strength training :)

Though I noticed the chain didn't like the last cog it would sound like it wasn't aligned perfectly though prior to this it was just fine. I was hoping for some insight not being very mechanically inclined.

Thanx in advance

I had the same thing happen although it was more gradual. I was on a century ride and my shifting began to deteriorate. It turns out my rear derailleur cable started to unravel slightly and started jamming into the shifter. It only took a thread of the cable to unravel and keep it from shifting.

If your cables are more than a year old I would change those out first.

Sadly they aren't even 2 months old but I will check out that possibility.

Thank you.
