I ride a lot but don't know much about bikes. I've ridden some of my friends bikes w/ the paddle shifting and liked it a lot. Is it possible to buy tiagra or 105 shifters and replace them for my sora shifters relatively easily?

Straight bolt-on, as far as i know. I haven't used those specific parts, but every Shimano swap I've tried has worked fine, including using mountain bike shifters with road components. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong...

not a 'direct' bolt on...

depends how many gears you've got. sora 3300 is 8spd, 3400 is 9spd. tiagra 4500 is also 9 spd. 105 (the 5600) is 10spd. obviously you've got to match the shifter to the cassette you have in back.
