Hello, can I use the small parts (axles, cones, freehub body) from a 7700 rear hub on a 5500 shell? I ask because I have a smooth 7700 hub with a cracked shell, and a slightly crunchy 5500 hub already built into a wheel I would like to keep running.

If it's crunchy, I'm worried about the races in the shell being shot.

But the easiest thing is take both hubs apart, and look at the cones. I'm betting they will be exactly the same.

If you can do it, great, make sure you order some new grade 25 bearings and go to town.

Thanks for the reply, I guess if no one knows I will need to just do it and see for myself. Pretty sure looking at the cones is not enough info to know if this will work, so I guess I am going to have to rebuild the hubs to find out. Hoping to avoid doing that work if it doesn't work but life is full of uncertainty right?

The parts usually look the same or they don't, there isn't a lot of in between, so visual inspection should be enough. Obviously, you'll know once you rebuild the hub as well.
