Should I make the Upgrade?

I need your advice.

About a year ago I built a Niner RLT 9 steel 1x 11sp 11-50T gravel bike w/ cable brakes. I need the 50t because I live in a hilly area and I'm recovering from covid pneumonia.

I really wanted an AXS setup and just bought components for a mullet Force/X01 eTap AXS setup, but I can't bring myself to install them.

Am I going to worry about my bike getting damaged or ripped off?

Is it worth the extra money?

My setup now including the cable brakes work great - i used compressionless cable housings - it shifts great and stops on a dime. When I got the AXS components and paired them it doesn't seem to offer much more functionality.

Hydraulic brakes and the 9t gear (e*thirteen 9-50t) would be great but I'm struggling to see much upside, and the downside is I've burned a bunch of benjamins. I've since found a 9-50t 11sp cassette that will work with my current setup.

I'm open for your thoughts. Am I not seeing the big picture or should I just sell the whole setup?

Well, my reply doesn't have much to do with the potential upside or downside of the components. I think that if you want it, and you think you will enjoy your bike more, then yes, by all means, install the new components. You have already spent the money, and, life is short. Regarding whether your bike is more likely to be stolen, any decent bike has a good chance of being stolen. And making a nice bike like yours even nicer isn't going to make any difference in that regard. Don't let it out of your sight. Buy a beater for commuting, and use it with an expensive lock like a Hiplock D1000 or LITELOK X1, so you have a bike to ride home.

Thanks for the advice Gregg
