essentially all i want is current mph, odometer, trip odometer, and maybe time. what do you folks say? i'm looking for simplicity in use and install, reliability, and maybe even some durability. i don't need another screen crowded with info, i look at enough of those  what does everyone think?

I have a cheap walmart Schwinn/Avenir computer I bought for 12 bucks.

I've used it for over 7 years now, it lost half it's color, it's been in rain, snow, frozen solid, for those years and it still works after one battery change.

Can't beat it for 12 bucks for simplicity.

I'm a big fan of the Cateye Strada series. Very compact size yet the display is large and uncluttered. Installation is a snap and simple one button operation. Comes in three versions too (Wired, Cadence or Wireless). One potential negative though: If night time viewing is important, the Stradas do not have backlit screens.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Can one still get Avocet cyclocomputers? I liked the design and simplicity...

Granted I get them cheap, but I like the Trek Incite 8i. Clean wireless install, easy programming and big number readout, no clutter on the screen, and so far very reliable.

I also like the Sigma Sport products

I have a bunch of cateye micro wireless ones on my bikes, simple install, easy to get batteries, and about $30.

Loved my Avocets, bought one or two duds on ebay. At this point most Avocets you can get used are unreliable and much more trouble than they are worth. Just got a Cateye Strada with cadence, and it works very simply, kind of similar to my Avocets. Too bad the company got out of the bike computer business. really did like my Avocet.
