I agree with the previous poster that suggested the Specialized Langster. It's pretty affordable and comes stock as a single-speed. The rear hub is a flip-flop, so you can ride fixed gear with a minimal investment (cog and lock ring). I ride a Langster for road training (as a SS) and love it.
