The beefiness of the headtube is aimed at reducing weight. "The System Six's carbon head tube really enables us to save quite a bit of weight on the overall frame," said Chris Peck, Cannondale's vice president of engineering and R&D. "We're able to eliminate all of the bond joints [at the head tube], all of the overal that we had with the Six13. We're able to thin the material out quite a bit because we are using a large diameter head tube, and that's really where we are getting a lot of the weigh savings."
