I was wondering how hard is it to remove a few spacers under the stem so that the handlebars are lower. My girlfriend wants her new mtn bike to fit her a little better. Is this something to leave the LBS to do? If anyone has any picture or knows of a link that shows how to do this task I would really appreciate it. Thanks for any help..... Justin

easy to do at home

1-remove screw on top cap.
2-loosen bolt on stem.
3-remove stem and spacer and swap position.
4-tighten top cap.
5-align handle bar and wheel and tighten stem.

If you are looking at cutting the steer tube down you might want to take it in to the shop. I prefer to leave it with spacers on top just in case she likes it taller she can always move it back otherwise she will be stuck with a short steer tube. Cables might be a little longer, but next time you replace the cables you can cut new housing to length.
