What do you mean by 'pop'?

My cyclocross wheels (Mavic A719, XT hubs, 14g straight spokes) pop when I pump the Gatorskins to 120. If I keep them at 100 no noise. Recently had the wheel retensioned (w/o the tires - Dohh!) and still the problem exists. So what gives? I can't believe the tire is compressing the wheel or making it rounder (or less round). Anybody else tension their wheels with the tires on and inflated?

'Pop' as in sound, or 'pop' as in breaking? You can probably get a better true job with the tire off, but I've done it both ways with no problems. Sounds like a problem with the spoke tension. Tire pressure will affect the ride of the bike/handling/tire wear, but it should not affect the wheel, unless it's too high of a psi which will cause the tire to come off the bead (which is not your case)...psi will make no diff when you are truing the wheel...it sounds like the wheel was not built right...

That is interesting..

Pressuring the tires does reduce spoke tension, generally about 5%. That might be enough to cause the non-driveside rear spokes to ping. If that is the problem you need to raise the tension on both sides of the wheel.
