Looking to get a Power Tap laced into my existing wheels. I am going to use Sapim CX spokes.

I kind of want to use black spokes... but I am worried they will chip and look like crap. What do you guys think??

Power Tap is the same issue... black or chrome??

Thanks, Don

That depends on the model you choose. The lighter, more expensive, have a Carbon insert that saves some weight. The all aluminum is heavier. Agree on the Xrays, the black are anodized. I have both black and plain stainless on different wheels and prefer the plain.

The black coating on cx-ray spokes is a oxide coating and it does not come, trust me I have tried to get it off. If you want a black powertap you can only get it in 24h. So if you need any other hole count you will have to get silver.
As it turns out... I need the 24 count... but does the black come off or is it oxidized the like the spokes??

The black finish on the powertap hub is anodized, the only thing that will take it off is acid. It may fade from sunlight but it takes many years of uv exposure before you would notice any difference in the black color.

I had wheels made with black spokes about 3 years ago. They've held up perfectly, no issues whatever. If I had to do it over again, I'd use silver spokes. I thought the black ones would look great, but IMO, they make the wheel look heavy. The spokes look like they're about double the diameter of their actual size.
