I recently installed this chain on my new build and (obviously) had to shorten it before connecting it up using the Powerlock link. I noticed that when I was removing the pin to shorten the chain, a very small, thin ring of material (metal) remained wrapped around the pin on the chain tool. Presumably, this material was sheared off the mushroomed end of the pin when extruding it through the plates.

As such, I'm wondering if this processes significantly weakens the chain. I ended up breaking the chain mid ride (not hammering) about 40 miles later. When I reconnected the chain, and again while adding new links back home, I again noticed these small rings of leftover material around the chain tool pin. Forgive me if I've made some egregious error here - I'm new at this.

Any suggestions/advice on what I did wrong if anything?
