After doing a bike fit, it was determined that I needed a different stem. I have a 2000 Technos with a threaded 1 inch quill stem. The mechanic could not get the new stem inserted into the head tube. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Stem? Are you sure that you are not asking about the headset? A 1" headset usually works with a steer tube that takes a 22.2 mm stem diameter. If you are talking of the head tube, you are likely speaking of the fitting of the headset cups into it. Colnago was known to have had some titanium frames that had oversized head tubes inside diameter measurements, for which Colnago had special headsets made for.
Thank you for the info. I guess I'll take the bike to another shop. You would think that there would be no problem swapping a stem on a stock Colnago steel frame with a Campy Record headset. Go figure.
