I placed an ad for some auto parts on craigslist. I paid about 130 plus shipping for the parts, I have it listed for 110, since they're still new in the box. Anyhow, I get an email from "George", stating to call him says he's interested. So, I call him up, chat for a little bit, then he proceeds to offer me 50.00 for the parts, saying he can get it locally for that price. I told him I wasn't stopping him from doing so. Cheap generic parts go for little $$, but you get what you pay for. Anyhow, I thought that was the end of him ...

Until recently, he calls me up, asking if they're still available, and what's the lowest price I'll take? I told him I'll knock 20 bucks off, but that's it! He says he wants to look at them first, I agreed! He comes over, sees that they're brand new, not a scam, then offers me 60.00, and that's as high as he'll go, and that's all the cash he had too. He tries to give me many reasons why I should take his low ball offer. I don't mind a little haggling, but I don't deal with low ballers. Anyway, at the end he was going to offer a little more, all of a sudden he had more cash, go figure. But it was too late, I was already done w/ him. Dishonest pple suc!!

Rant off ...

I can't believe someone would haggle with a craigslist "retail" price. Absurd:rolleyes:

As all of You now know I got one good deal off of it on road shoes,(offered price) but the whole deal made Me feel messed up & left a bad taste in My mouth. Last time I tried to post something They wanted My phone number so I didn't, and as I found out today Someone hacked the thing. My post today looking for Activity partners was flagged by some Weirdo who posted also, so its messed up.

It's a matter of degree. Sounds to me like 'Doctor Lowball' was being a tad bit misleading and a bit of a prick. I've run into the type, and I don't dig 'em either.

It's okay to haggle, but beyond a certain point you become redonkulous with it.

There's no standard

is the thing.

It's weird that every ad feels the need to say "no low ballers." But some people have a pretty distorted idea of what their stuff is worth; others ask very high prices expecting to negotiate a lot off.

I think both parties missed the sale a little bit here, honestly. When something is worth $100 (straight percentages, to keep it easy) new, and it's still NIB, I think on a random, free internet classified, if it is not an especially high-demand product, I think it's worth $75 or so -- of course, everyone's idea differs.

So, you ask $85, he starts out at $38, which I agree is kinda insulting.

More discussion -- you offer $75, he throws out $45.

Since you didn't get any other takers at $75-85 in the interim, and he's suddenly finds more money, it seems like he's about to go to, what, $55-60? Then maybe you go to $70 and settle on $65.

Now, I agree that this is probably too much dickering around for such little dollars. But, it depends upon what this thing is really worth to you -- if you're selling it new in the box, that suggests to me you really don't need it any more, and just want whatever cash you can get.

But, perhaps you don't really care if you sell it, and were just seeing if anyone needed it quickly...

I think you have put more than $100 worth of thought into this.

CL seems to be a waste of time for most low cost goods.

what can I say

Other than I subscribe to The Economist?

But you are probably right.

I am torn because the Girl and I sorted through our stuff into a "keep" and "don't keep" pile, and there are plenty of things that probably don't need to simply be donated to goodwill, but not enough to bother garage saleing.

Anybody want to buy an original XBOX, and a playstation 2, with about a dozen games? $25!

How about a Performance magnetic trainer, works fine. $20?

Etc, etc.

This is a funny story if one edits it carefully. Sounds like one a those spam engrish deals.

You get the concept of haggling, though. I'm thinking Optimus doesn't.
