So my hyjack didn't work...
I use a small locking vice grips to hold straight pull spokes to not twisting while installing/tightening. They seem to rotate very easily.

Is there a better way?

That's what I do, but it's kind of a pain. Park and I think others make a little tool to hold the spoke, costs about $10 I think. I've been considering one.

Wrap a towel around each spoke when you turn the nipple. Then you can clamp tight and not nick the spoke. It's easy when you have bladed spokes.

For occasional use, use a pair of flat jaw pliers and coat both jaws with liquid electrical tape. Recoat as needed. Not spring return and a bit cumbersome but you deserve the punishment for choosing straight pulls :D

For more frequent use, spend the $70 and buy what cxwrench posted.
