Hey guys & gals:

I would like to strip and repaint my road bike all gloss black. I was wondering if anyone has ever done this to a bike that has a carbon rear end. My concern is with the chemical strip eating away whatever bonding material is used at the carbon/aluminum junction points.

Does anyone have any helpful advice about how to go about doing this?

The areas of concern are shown below.

Thanks in advance,
Arby.

I have done quite a few. I tape upe the carbon areas really well and also about a half inch of the metal at the seat stay and bottom bracket. Blast the paint off with plastic media that does not damage the metal. The 1/2 inch area that was not blasted I sand by hand so there is no worry of damaging the carbon. If the paint is in good shape there is no reason other than weight to strip to bare metal.
