I just got a new pair of lycra shorts and when I was riding I rubbed up against the velcro strap from my saddle back going around the seat post. I pulled the strap so all the rough side of the velcro would be covered but it was too late. While there isn't a hole in my shorts where it rubbed its all fuzzy.

I had the same problem - knicks would wear out far too quickly due to wear from rubbing against the saddle bag. It is the reason I no longer ride with a saddle bag unless I have to, which is when I need to water bottles.

I now carry 2 or 3 spare tubes, inserts, levers and self adhesive repair patches in one of those bidon carriers, and it works very well. You can buy them for a small sum from PBK and mosts LBSs, but if you do buy the shorter size as the longer size is harder to pack due to the indents for the bottle cage.
