Hello, I just noticed today while installing my wheel that the previous owner must have filed off the lawyer lips on my 09 tarmac pro SL.

1. Am I still legal to ride in most races in the US? ( am a lowly cat 5)

2. If I have to buy a new fork, what do I look for? Will any tapered fork with a 1.5 base work?

that's a UCI rule and i really doubt anyone will be checking your fork.

why wouldn't you buy a Specialized fork if you wanted to replace it? there's no way i'd trust a $69.99 no-name fork from China.

just use the fork you have now and race your bike.

pretty much, yes. i'd guess they'd probably check at nationals, but in my experience they usually only check tt bikes. i've NEVER seen road bikes get checked in any way. i think it's just too hard for USAC to manage for mass-start races. it's much easier for a tt when you have riders coming through one-by-one to check weight and rider position.
